11 June 2011: Fiesta en Rodezno (La Rioja)

On Saturday 11 June 2011 is the day in which our "Fiesta de la Ermita" will be held this year. We also call it "Fiesta de la Virgen de Olartia", the patron of Rodezno, La Rioja.
This festivity is always held on the previous Saturday to what we call in Spain "Domingo de Pentecostés".
In the past, this religious festival was held on the next Monday to "Domingo de Pentecostés", as it happens with The Virgin of Rocío,in Huelva, and the Virgin of "Cerro de los Angeles", in Getafe, Madrid, among other celebrations all around Spain. But, due to the fact that many of us work and live somewhere else, some years ago they decided to celebrate it on Saturday. As Easter never has the same date every year, this also applies to our festivity, so the date for the celebration changes from one year to the other.
The original statue, whose image is depicted above, of our Patron was stolen back to 1975, a long time ago! Nowadays, we have another statue of the Virgin, also very pretty, but we never lose hope to recover the original one. And I think now it is the right time, as many years have gone by, and it may likely be located in a house whose owners have nothing to do with the robbery, who ignore it was stolen from my village so, when they read this, they will surely give it back to my village.
As internet reaches everywhere, a friend gave me the idea of inserting here the image of our patron, "Nuestra Señora la Virgen de Olartia", as this blog is widely seen all over the world, and with the help of all the citizens of the world, recover our precious Virgin and bring it back to its village.
No need to say that this statue is very important to us, as it is part of our heritage, history and identity, regardless its obvious beauty, but maybe not artistic value. For us, it is emotionally valuable, as it is the original image of the Patron of our village, la Virgen de Olartia.
It would be so great if she could be present for this year's celebrations and the years to come! So, thank you for your cooperation. I am sure that, with your help, if the person or institution who has our statue sees this picture, they will realise of its emotional importance for us and will give it back to our village, as soon as possible, with our total and deep gratitude for ever.
I have also found an old postcard of the Virgin in black and white, with the prayer to the Virgin on its back. I have scanned both pictures so that you can see them.

El próximo sábado 11 de junio de 2011 es el día en el que celebramos la Fiesta de la Ermita. También la llamamos “Fiesta de la Virgen de Olartia”, la patrona de Rodezno, La Rioja.
Esta fiesta se celebra el anterior sábado al Domingo de Pentecostés. En el pasado, esta fiesta religiosa se celebraba al día siguiente del Domingo de Pentecostés, en lunes, como ocurre con la fiesta de la “Virgen del Rocío”, en Huelva, y la “Virgen del Cerro de los Ángeles”, en Getafe, Madrid, así como ocurre con otras fiestas en España. Pero hace muchos años que se cambió al sábado, ya que muchos de los habitantes del pueblo vivimos o trabajamos en otro sitio. Debido a que la Semana Santa cambia de fecha cada año, esto hace que la fiesta de la ermita también varíe de fecha según el año.
La estatua original de nuestra patrona, cuya imagen podéis ver arriba, fue robada en el año 1975 de su ermita. Actualmente tenemos otra imagen, también muy bella, aunque todos mantenemos la esperanza de que el pueblo recupere la talla original.
Y creo que ahora es el momento, ya que han pasado muchos años y lo más probable es que se halle en una casa cuyos propietarios no tuvieron nada que ver con el asunto y seguro que ignoran que fue robada a mi pueblo y seguro que, cuando lean esto, la devolverán a Rodezno sin falta.
Una amiga me dio la idea de subir al blog las imágenes de nuestra patrona, “Nuestra Señora la Virgen de Olartia”, ya que internet llega a todas partes y este blog lo ve gente de todo el mundo, así que, con la ayuda de todas las personas del mundo, esperamos y confiamos que se recupere la talla original y que vuelva a su pueblo de Rodezno. Para la gente de nuestro pueblo es muy importante, ya que es parte de nuestra historia, patrimonio e identidad y, aunque su belleza es indudable, quizá no tenga valor artístico, o quizá sí, pero para nosotros tiene un valor sentimental tan grande que es incalculable.
¡Estaría genial si la tuviéramos de vuelta este sábado y ya para siempre! Así que, muchas gracias por vuestra cooperación. Seguro que, con vuestra ayuda, la persona o institución que la tenga ahora decidirá devolvérnosla enseguida, al darse cuenta de cuánto la echamos de menos en el pueblo, y lo hará en cuanto pueda, enseguida, recibiendo a cambio la más sincera y profunda gratitud de todos los habitantes de Rodezno, los de ahora y los de antes, desde ese mismo momento que la devuelva y para siempre.

Nota: He encontrado una postal antigua con su oración en la parte de atrás. No sé de qué año es pero es anterior a la foto en color. He escaneado ambas fotos para que las podáis ver todos, quizá alguno no las teníais y aunque estéis lejos del pueblo, también así las podéis ver. Saludos a todos los ciudadanos de Rodezno, dondequiera que estéis ahora.

Have a look at the official page of the TV series which made lots of Spanish people wonder whether we were like that here in La Rioja! Well, if I ever feel tempted to say that life is pretty boring here, I will think about it twice, as such intrigues and cunning characters are not my cup of tea, really!
